D.M.T. Do whatchur Mamma Told you Get a massage!

This will be a Deep Muscle Tissue and Trigger Point massage lasting 60 or 90 minutes. Bring a stick to bite on (just kidding). In this session we will use pressure on a scale of 1 to 10. Benefits

We see part time committed athletes as well as hard core competitors come through our doors. High stress jobs in Washington put demands on the body mentally and physically. Massage gives an advantage; it makes each person better at what they do. How does it work? Here's a few examples

  • Pain reduction - Tension and waste products in muscles can often cause pain. Massage helps reduce this in many ways including releasing the bodies endorphins.
  • Detoxification of body - Naturally occurring toxins flow through the bloodstream. The concentration of toxins increase with intense exercise (+1hr), prolong immobility (sitting at a desk for +6hrs) and repetitive motions (using a mouse, hitting a tennis ball). Massage increases the body's ability to clean out toxins such as carbon dioxide, lactic acid and uric acid. Improved circulation moves blood more quickly thru the body improving the detox system
  • Stretching - Massage can stretch tissues that could not be stretched in the usual methods. Bundles of muscle fibers are stretched lengthwise as well as sideways. Massage can also stretch the sheath or fascia that surrounds the muscle, so releasing any tension or pressure build up.
  • Break down scar tissue - Scar tissue is the result of previous injuries or trauma and can effect muscle, tendons and ligaments. This can lead to inflexible tissues that are prone to injury and pain.
  • Improve tissue elasticity - Hard training can make tissues hard and inelastic. This is one reason why hard training may not result in improvements. Massage helps reverse this by stretching the tissues.
  • Opens micro-circulation - Massage increases blood flow to tissues, but so does exercise. What massage also does is open or dilate the blood vessels and by stretching them this enables nutrients to pass through more easily.
  • Relaxation - Muscles relax through heat generated, circulation and stretching. Mechano-receptors which sense touch, pressure, tissue length and warmth are stimulated causing a relaxation response. By releasing stress a person thinks faster and clearer in the days following their massage.
  • Improved performance - Massage combines all the benefits mentioned on this page allowing a body to perform at its optimal levels. Reduced range of motion and stiff muscles decrease performance and endurance. Massage has physical and mental benefits that create a feeling of well being in the body. Personal best performances are reached more quickly by utilizing the benefits of massage.
